Danish artist Siri Gindesgaard ( born 1974 ) resides in Roskilde, Denmark. Her medium is painting, oil on linen and with a signature attention to detail. Strong eyes, highlights in the hair, blush on the cheek bone. Siri Gindesgaard´s attention to silence and personal traits is unique to her artistic work.
Left in front of one of Gindesgaard´s works one immediately notice that a certain soft blur is calling you closer. Similar to that of a camera out of focus and yet so much more interesting as it is in the individual brushstrokes by the artist´s hand that the work comes alive. The figures in the compositions, often young beautiful women, are deliberatedly placed in calming and visually interesting poses as if they have been caught in a private quiet moment. Thinking. Right there on the couch or chair.
The quiet sublte moment moves and leaves the viewer with a silent yet strong voice and an inderterminable but very present mystique. The color pallet is predominantly neutral with grays, blacks and a hint of blue and rusty. Sometimes some earth tones too, but with a hundred soft tones in between them to make it dynamic and visually pleasing. Ethereal.
About her work Siri Gindesgaard has stated:
”My paintings are about mood and emotions. Its memories from the past just left behind, current feelings, or daily conditions that characterize my imagery. It’s women of all ages, with different minds, that tell their stories. The paintings are often marked by a certain melancholy/vulnerability that resides in myself. In the creation process occurs a dialogue where the expression of my gure answers me in some kind of poetic recognition, strength and intimacy. Elements we all possess.”
Siri Gindesgaard has participated in group shows throughout great parts of Denmark. Lately, she has also gained larger interest from an international audience and exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
Siri Gindesgaard is the recipient of the ESKFF artist residency.
