Objective
(being an object hold an Object)

En solo udstilling med Kelly Reemtsen

Fernisering: fredag 08. juni 2018. Kl. 18.00 – 20.00.
Udstillingsperiode: 08. juni – 15. juli. 2018.

Kvinden, husmoderen, det stærke køn (female empowerment) og uafhængighed er temaer for denne sommers udstilling Objective (being an Object hold an Object).

KONSTANTIN DÉRY // 12.05.18 //

Galleri Oxholm er stolte over at kunne præsentere

Terrain in Flow

En solo udstilling med Konstantin Déry

Fernisering: lørdag 12. maj 2018. Kl. 12.00 – 14.00.
Udstillingsperiode: 12. maj – 3. juni. 2018.

Terrain in Flow er Konstantin Dérys anden soloudstilling i Galleri Oxholm.

Camilla West, Seascape Early Morning, January, olie på lærred, 40 x 60 cm. 2018

Fernisering lørdag den 17. marts 2018 kl. 12.00 – 14.00
Udstillingsperiode 17. februar – 8. april 2018

Opening Reception Saturday 10. February 2018 kl. 12 - 2 pm

Exhibition period 10. February – 4. March 2018

It is with great pleasure that Gallery Oxholm invites to the opening of the group exhibition  REALITY, FANTASY AND ALL THE THINGS INBETWEEN where new pieces by the three artists Maria Engholm (DK), Heidi P (DK) og Giuditta R (IT) will be on display.

The exhibition presents new paintings and drawings which point of departure is the fragmented, strange and challenging that our contemporary life and we as humans are made of.

Heidi P´s paintings are color saturated and extremely imaginative. Her artistic universe where scale and perspective doesn't´ refer to traditional painterly konventions, invites us on a wonderful journey of fantasy, where funny and disgusting exist side by side with a overt contempt for the everyday grind. Joy, fright, humor and seriousness is experienced in a balstyric harmony in a parallel world far from the one we know so well and leve in. Heidi P activates our fantasy and distorts the wellknown so it becomes a more far more abstract expression where you, I and us are suddenly much closer each other.

Maria Engholm whose paintings are presented in the middle part of the gallery space works with perspective recognizable entities and various kinds of disturbing elements which act as subjacent structures but also clearly breaks with the narrations. The works present themselves as color saturated , spacious entities which form comes from architecture, specific imagined rooms, installations and cities´shabby yet beautiful spaces.

Engholm gets her inspiration from the streets of the city. As a viewer of her work one is taken on a journey into the detail and given a part in the narration and story. The space oil Engholm´s paintings is presented as both an absolute physical entity and as a mental space where experiences are stored and phantasms occur. The paintings manifests themselves as colorful remarks and aesthetic pleasure but transcend the decorative element too in calling on the viewer´s reflection and imagination. They are sensuous realities and inner phycological spaces in a combination of cool minimalism and elements from everyday life.

Giuditta R describes the paradox as an overall and omnipresent theme and premise in human life. Rustica´s work show the darker side of human life and give space to the aparte. The works, pencil and mixed technique on paper, are inspired by artists such as Francis Bacon, but also the horror genre (movie), contemporary photography, video games and photographic material from crime archives are obvious elements of interests one comes to think of when confronted with Rustica´s art. The color scheme is black, brown and white and accompanied by the artist´s choice of highlighting smaller specific areas through glitter and shiny sequins. The small details, the kings of a butterfly, the cuffs of a shirt or the tear in the cheek, are emphasized on the surface of the drawing as a sudden space of opportunity and preoccupation for the viewer in the middle of all the colorless. This space - the pause - that occurs, also emphasizes the artist´s message about hope for the future - hope for man´s future existence and being.

For further information about the exhibition and press please contact the gallery via telephone +45 22452037 or email cd@gallerioxholm.dk. Reality, fantasy and all the things in-between runs until Sunday 4 March 2018.

Frodo Mikkelsen: Tot-Totem III. Painted wood. 62 x 28,5 x 28,5 cm. 2017.

It is with great pleasure that we invite to the opening of the exhibition Two Danes and An American. The exhibition presents sculptures, objects, installations, drawings and paintings by Paul Brainard (US), Frodo Mikkelsen (DK) and Morten Hemmingsen Sørup (DK). The three artists works within different genres and media and permit the the viewer to explore totem poles adorned with skulls, pictures from New York´s life and society together with palm tree sunsets and everyday life situations.

Under the title Scrambled Eggs we present works by Danish artist Morten Hemmingsen Sørup. Sørup´s artistic universe is a wonderful mix of street culture, sarcasm, humour and colors. An unpretentious and teasing combination of expressions and impressions. Scrambled Eggs. The exhibited works and reliefs comment on small and big moments in our everyday life as much as they also and rather obvious point out the artist´s play with language and absurdity. Morten Hemmingsen (born 1978) lives and works in Copenhagen. Han has had exhibitions nationally and internationally. Most recently at the Heerup Museum, The Kastrupgård Collection, Lunchmoney in Aarhus and at the Munch Gallery in New York.

With inspiration from family members and people from his own social circle, celebrity culture and religion Paul Brainard has created a series of different and complex portraits refering to the title Deep Elimination.

A common aesthetic trait in Brainard´s work is the dark and straightforward sensibility. Looked at from a formal point of view the works stands out as a combination of very different expressive energies and precision. The different pictorial elements refer to depth as well as surface. There exists an obvious rebelious character in both execution as well as choice of subject which leads the viewer to recall own experiences and reconsider positions and actions. The works channel a voice towards our media dominated society. Time is shown as a  compressed entity in which forms overlap and eliminate one other and random figures exist in a semi abstract environment. Brainard permits abstraction and representation to push and pull and in doing so he points out the absence  of substance and spirituality in our modern society. Paul Brainard was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He holds a degree from University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Museum of Art School, Pittsburgh and Pratt Institute Brooklyn, NY. Brainard lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Han has among other exhibited at the Second Street Gallery, Lodge Gallery, New York and also Dvorak Sec Contemporary, Czech Republic.

Refering to the title TOT-TOTEM Danish artist Frodo Mikkelsen shows new paintings, sculptures and objects whose immidiate nature seems raw, with texture, dark and made up of different elements. The skulls which physically mimes the standing form of the totem pole clearly comments on cultural conventions and is, like Mikkelsen´s other works, unbending when looking at genre and traditions. Together with the lonesome rider in the paintings (the artist himself as a cowboy) they point towards a great wish to celebrate the past and present, culture, colors and forms. At the same time the also clearly link to Pop Art´s mode of expression through the use of glitter, richness of color and iconic references. Traditionally, the totem pole has been used as a picture of a relative´s connection and access to the spiritual world and through that rights to certain histories, traditional dance and songs. For the exhibition Mikkelsen has modified the object and combined it with a another iconic form - the skull. This combination - TOT_TOTEM - the artist reminds us of all the beautiful and memorable things that life has to offer. That we should pay homage to life and pay more attention in general. The duality is also visible in the paintings where we are introduced to Western life and cultural worship.

Frodo Mikkelsen (born 1974) lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. He started of as a graffiti artist in 1984 and has since 1990 worked professionally with art as an exhibiting artist and curator and since 2005 this has been his liveliohood. Mikkelsen got his debut at Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling in Copenhagen in 2001 and has most recently exhibited at The Kastrupgård Collection, the National Museum of Denmark, and abroad in France, Sweden and the US.

FACE IT // Solo by Niels Corfitzen

A.jpg
E.JPG

We are very excited to present upcoming exhibition "Face It" by Niels Corfitzen.

Niels Corfitzen ( born 1980 ) toys with light and abstraction to create surreal portraits. The blemishes strewn across his works appear as both analog and digital distortion, offering both a vulnerability and mystery to the figures he depicts. Often, his work plays on both outdoors backdrops and flashes of culture.

Corfitzen is based in Copenhagen but was raised in Sweden and lived in England for a number of years. Corfitzen works in several layers, allowing the image to find him through a gradual back-and-forth. The work takes an interesting architectural turn in earlier works, playing less with abstraction and more with angles. Still, one of the artist’s greatest strengths carries through: Bold lighting decisions cast subjects as both exposed and alluring. All absorb in how the artist uses color and form to play with our expectations.

It is composed of mysterious, surreal worlds caught between deep, hazy dream and heavy nightmare.
Amaryllis was inspired by the life-cycle of the many-headed flower of the same name, to whom death and dormancy are as important as growth, beauty and life. The installation is at its core a communion with nature through digital technology.

The virtual installation is on the HTC Vive, but the concept is expanded with various traditional paintings and drawings on paper and canvas, as well as music specifically composed for each virtual world.

A taste of things to come: https://vimeo.com/224781413

--~~>>OCEAN<<~~--
The first chapter of Amaryllis is “Ocean” – a piece about cleansing and an entry point to the digital world. It swells and swallows the visitor continually, bringing both digital death and absolution. “Ocean” was inspired by the river Lethe from Dante’s Divine Comedy, which welcomes those who may venture out of the 9th circle of Hell. Bathing in the river would take away one’s memory, and wash away one’s sins. “Ocean” welcomes the visitor to a space of contemplation and catharsis.

Butterflies & Pussytales

Solo show by Niki Feijen (NL)

 "Koempel"

"Koempel"

Dutch photographer Niki Feijen immortilizes an astonishingly intact glimpse into the past. This autodidact specializes in documenting and capturing historic architecture and abandoned buildings. Each photo fuses together the conflicting notions of beauty and decay and corresponds with his desire to capture and silently communicate with his audience about the subject’s very essence.

Niki wants to recreate the exact same scene as he sees while standing in a location but the lightspectrum your eye can capture is much, much wider than a camera can capture. Photographing a dark setting with extreme highlights like a window causes the highlights to wash out into white or dark areas can become obscure black blobs.  It’s impossible to shoot a photo that captures both ends of this spectrum. Since Niki does not use any artificial lighting he uses different exposures to capture a much wider light spectrum than a traditional photograph. The result is a hyper realistic photo which would replicate the exact same thing you would see standing inside the location yourself.

"True to their promise, the chums meet again" (and again and again)

Joshua Hagler - “Missouri Parallels” is my second solo exhibition with Galleri Oxholm in Copenhagen. The exhibition presents recent paintings resulting from a year-long period of studio experimentation in 2016/17. Layers of paint are stripped away as they’re built up. The act of digging, picking, and erasing is important formally as well as conceptually. I think of the canvases as operating tables and excavation sites. Much of the process is outside of my control, which offers an opportunity to be confronted with a presence that can’t be easily summed up or explained.

There are two kinds of paintings here. - The first are landscapes referenced mainly from my own photographs and experiences during research trips along the Missouri River, beginning in Missouri and ending in South Dakota. My research began with an interest in the Missouri for its significance as an early 19th-century westward water route. What I discovered in the process has only now begun to reveal itself in my work.

My first trip occurred before the presidential election; the second trip, after. I specifically looked at sites imbricated with many layers of history. Remnants of slavery, past and present indigenous cultures, Industrial-Revolution-era manufacturing and agriculture, ghost towns, as well as wildlife, farms, nature preserves, and education sites appear and recede along the way. The paintings depict multiple periods of time within one space. Unexpected forms are revealed with the removal of the top layers of paint. For me, these forms call into question the notion of progress within linear time. Time itself, then, becomes a subject in the work.

The second type of painting is figurative work responding directly to the original black-and-white silent film “The Birth of a Nation” by D.W. Griffith. “The Birth of a Nation” was a silent film which cast the Ku Klux Klan as its central heroes. After its release in 1915, this propaganda film, groundbreaking in its day, was used to recruit new members into the KKK. The work responds to certain scenes in a way that uses white supremacist imagery against itself. What I hope to reveal is a nostalgic romance that white American history has with itself, in its tendency to render its story falsely just and sympathetic, and, in so doing, ironically reveals its own shame. It is in this contradiction that I seek to invent new poetics of inherited shame and redemptive need.

"First Blood" : Simon Fensholm, Christian Gundtoft & Kent Richardt

"First Blood" is a group exhibition featuring three artists all new to the gallery : Simon Fensholm, Christian Gundtoft and Kent Richardt.

Simon Fensholm (DK)

KINKI WEEKEND

"Kinki Weekend"
During the weekend, April 22nd & 23rd we will be exhibiting the newest of Kinki Texas' drawings and one of his larger paintings. This event is also the launch of the artists newest book release. So come by and get your Kinki-fix on !!! The exhibition will be shown until Sunday, April 30th.

Kinki Texas (DE) - born in Bremen, 1969.

Singing cowboys, warrior crusaders, bandaged, partly skeletal figures … these are just some of the characters that populate Kinki Texas' paintings. The raw, somewhat unrefined appearance of these heroes and anti-heroes is matched by the roughness of the painterly gesture with which they have been captured on canvas: there is no trace here of a meticulous painting style; instead the works have a crude, garish finish. The visual motifs are accompanied by written words, some of which have been sprayed on, others scratched into the top layers of paint.

Kinki Texas (DE) - født i Bremen, 1969

Syngende cowboys, krigere, korsriddere, forbundne, skeletagtige figurer...

SOLO SHOW : H.E.D. (NO) "SPEJLENE"

HÅKON ENGESÆTH DANIELSEN (NO)

NICOLAS MARTIN (FR)

There’s more than just a skillful artist behind the paintings of Nicolas Martin. It’s clear to the viewer after the first glance at any of his pieces, as each one of them portrays a sort of a philosophical nuance and an aura that cannot be shaken off. Simple and mundane in narrative, each of his paintings displays scenes that you wouldn’t ordinarily pay attention to in your daily routine: a corner of a building at night, trucks parked next to the road, a stairway exit… However, Martin’s technique and the way he plays with the light give the simplicity of the scene an unexpected complexity, permeating it with a mysterious, eerie feeling that binds both vision and thought. The way he applies the paint makes the inanimate objects seem as though they might move at any given time, and though the setting is often deprived of a subject, there never is a lack of presence in his work.

In order to create and portray a reality so recognizable, yet thus far unseen, Nicolas Martin uses more than his uncanny perspective and understanding of the surrounding space. Undoubtedly, his perception must be on a level different than yours or mine, for the otherwise familiar scenes that he depicts provoke attention and interest that isn’t usually felt; but in order to get it across on the canvas, the 1980 French-born artist honed his artistic skills in the influential Auguste Renoir School in Paris, as well as attending the graphic design program in Canada, at the University Laval.
